This sample bank carries a Linn label but no model number. The LM-1, LinnDrum and Linn 9000 have separate instrument histories; none is established as the source of these files.
A name without a model
Linn is the name attached to this collection of percussion samples. The missing model number leaves an important question open: which instrument supplied them? A familiar-sounding hit is not enough to choose between the LM-1, LinnDrum and Linn 9000, or to establish how a recording was made.
The example on this page lets you hear the files in a comparison arrangement. Its rhythm comes from the CR-78 Rock 1 pattern; it is not presented as a preset from a Linn machine.
Three machines, three stories
The LM-1, LinnDrum and Linn 9000 were separate products with different controls, sounds and ambitions. Warren Cann’s September 1981 LM-1 review, the July 1982 buyers guide covering LinnDrum, and the 1985 Linn 9000 reviews describe specific instruments at different points in that development.
Those accounts give the family its detail. They do not identify this bank. Follow the named machine pages below for the instruments themselves, rather than treating the unnumbered files as another model.

The pictures belong to named instruments
The LinnDrum photograph and the LM-1 and Linn 9000 advertisements below show identified members of the family. They help put the names and panels beside one another. None is a portrait of a proven source instrument for this sample bank.
