The Rhythm Maker 12 places twelve rhythm buttons beneath a wire music stand, with Start/Stop, Sustain, Tempo and Power/Volume controls on its front panel. The photographed wood-cased example came from Moby’s official Reverb shop in 2018.
The machine in the record
Moby / the Rhythm Maker 12.
Moby’s official Reverb shop offered an Ace Tone Rhythm Maker 12 from his drum-machine collection in 2018, and the listing photographs show the panel label clearly. It is a collection story, not a Moby record credit, but the rare surviving machine deserves to be seen and remembered.

Twelve rhythms beside the music
Twelve rhythm buttons run across a metal face set into a wood cabinet. Above them, a wire stand holds the music where the player can read it. The Rhythm Maker 12 is a small accompaniment station: choose the rhythm for the tune, set the tempo and start playing alongside it.

Twelve ways to begin
March, Foxtrot, Swing, Tango, Waltz, R&B, Rock, Bossa Nova, Samba, Mambo, Cha Cha and Rhumba are printed across the buttons. The dance names supply the repertoire; Tempo sets its pace, Power/Volume its level, and Start/Stop lets the player decide when the accompaniment enters and leaves. Sustain has its own control beside them.
A piece of playing furniture
The photographs show an unusually complete example, including the stand. Moby’s official Reverb shop offered it in October 2018 as part of a drum-machine sale benefiting the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The listing called it Rhythm Master 12, while the panel reads Rhythm Maker 12. The instrument’s own lettering supplies the name used here.
