Sample collections use the name Ace Tone Rhythm King, but the surviving references do not identify the source instrument. The documented Maestro Rhythm King is a separate case, with its own product and circuit history.

Listening archive

The rhythm box remains playable history.

The Planet Drum Machine catalogue preserves the Rhythm King as a sound source as well as an object. Its presence there gives a reader a route from panel legend to rhythm, without assigning it to a record we cannot name.

A name that travelled

A sound can outlive the nameplate that would explain it. ‘Ace Tone Rhythm King’ survives as a sample-library label, listed separately from Rhythm Ace and Rhythm Master in Drum Abuse. It gives us a name attached to a group of sounds; the references do not identify the model those sounds came from.

The Chicago pulse

Maestro also used Rhythm King. Malte Pelleter’s technical history discusses its timing architecture alongside a Chicago Musical Instrument Company patent filed in 1968: timed pulses and matrix logic arranged the percussion into repeatable rhythms. The study treats Maestro’s Rhythm King and Ace Tone’s Rhythm Ace as distinct designs. The shared words do not establish which instrument supplied the Ace Tone-labelled samples.

Keeping the trail

The recordings preserve the name more clearly than the hardware. Until a model can be identified, there is no reliable panel, rhythm list or production date to describe under this label. Readers looking for the documented instruments can follow the separate Rhythm Ace and Maestro Rhythm King accounts.
