Luxor Passat appears in later drum-machine sample catalogues. Those entries establish a name in circulation, not a verified launch date or a complete account of the instrument behind it.
Listening archive
An obscure label, kept audible.
The Luxor Passat survives in the Planet Drum Machine catalogue as a named sound source. That is a modest but real afterlife: an accompaniment box still able to be heard rather than reduced to a catalogue line.

Jason Booth / sampling the Luxor Passat.
Jason Booth included the Luxor Passat in his published drum-machine sample archive, carrying this little-known rhythm box into a contemporary producer’s sound library. The source is sampling history, not a recording credit, and that is exactly the story being told.

A name in the sample catalogues
Digital Redux’s Planet Drum Machine list names Luxor — Passat, and the Best Service contents sheet includes LUXOR PASSAT under analogue drum machines and rhythm boxes. Jason Booth also publishes a Luxor Passat board on Soundboard, listing seven samples with labels including Kick, Clave and two snares. These are useful records of how sounds were offered to musicians. They do not identify the sampled cabinet, authenticate its circuitry or establish a factory voice list; the photographs beside the Best Service list show other instruments.

What the fifty-five counts
Drum Abuse Vol. 1 indexes 55 samples under Luxor Passat, with an approximate 1975 date. Its README says the pack was extracted from the Synth Abuse Drum Machine Sample Collection and excludes loops. Fifty-five is therefore a sample-library count, not a count of factory voices, preset rhythms or surviving machines. The approximate year remains the compiler’s attribution. Without an authenticated panel, manual or original recording account, neither this index nor Booth’s seven labels tells us how a player selected rhythms on the Passat. The sound-library record is worth keeping; the hardware history is still an open question.
