Elka placed the Drumstar 80 in its British rhythm range by August 1986. The programmable digital unit was a more ambitious proposition than a preset box: a panel of electronic percussion, mixer control and connections built for a player who wanted to shape the kit as well as the pattern.

The Musica E Computer credits list an Elka Drumstar 80 among the instruments used at Museo Del Synth Marchigiano. The credit is album-wide, without a named pattern or player, but it puts the Elka inside a documented contemporary museum-studio session.

A British Elka-Orla advertisement places the Drumstar 80 alongside the Drumstar 64 and OMB5, while the factory schematic identifies it as a digital programmable rhythm unit. The machine arrives from the mid-1980s with a clear job: make a flexible electronic percussion instrument available without moving into a full studio system.
A kit with its own channels
A later hands-on study describes 32 sounds over 12 channels, individual outputs, mixer faders, external clock and MIDI note triggering. Together these features describe a working method: choose the voices, bring each channel into balance and send selected sounds outward for separate treatment.Source (1)
The personality stays in the hardware
The same study found a distinctive voice set and also documented abrupt cut-offs, fan noise and output noise on the specimen it used. That is useful, physical history—the Drumstar is an instrument with a particular set of circuits, sounds and maintenance realities, not a list of abstract features.Source (1)
Back in the recording room
Dust Palace recorded Drumstar 80 voices for a dedicated sampling project, and Slow Motion Records credits the machine on Rodion & Mammarella’s 2024 album Musica E Computer. Those appearances give the Elka a documented return to modern studio work.
