ELI CompuRhythm CR-7030 Beat Box

The surviving-unit accounts collected by Matrixsynth describe the CR-7030 as a preset machine without user programming: the player selects a prepared rhythm rather than writing separate drum events.

Yoichi Kawamoto’s 2019 history dates ELI’s CompuRhythm CR-7030 Beat Box to 1979. That is retrospective dating; no original launch notice has been established here.

Collection record

A scarce box, properly identified.

MESS preserves the ELI CR-7030 as a collection object. For a machine this elusive, a clearly labelled museum record is more valuable than an expansive story without a specimen behind it.

Lunar Maps / Lunar Maps.

Lunar Maps explicitly lists an ELI CR-7030 among the drum machines used for its self-titled album. The credits do not identify a pattern, player or track, but they give the scarce ELI a firm modern album context without inventing more than the record supplies.

Select a preset, not individual steps

The surviving-unit accounts collected by Matrixsynth describe the CR-7030 as a preset machine without user programming: the player selects a prepared rhythm rather than writing separate drum events. That account gives the instrument a basic working distinction, but a verified factory manual is still needed before describing a particular selector sequence or synchronization setup.

The name on the box

Yoichi Kawamoto’s 2019 history identifies ELI’s CompuRhythm CR-7030 Beat Box and dates it to 1979. His reproduced instrument photograph is credited to Mark Dalzell, rather than a factory publication. MESS separately catalogues a CR-7030 under ELI and Drum Machine. These sources preserve the identity; neither supplies an original launch advertisement or proves a first use of the Beat Box name.

Among Lunar Maps’ drum machines

Lunar Maps lists Eli CR 7030 among the drum machines used for its self-titled album, recorded in 2010 and released on 15 June 2011. The same credits name CR-78, Mini Pops Junior, Rhythm King MRK 2, MC-505 and DR880. The ELI belongs to that documented equipment list, but the credits do not assign it to a track, pattern or player.
