GEM’s Drum 15 is an Italian standalone preset rhythm machine, made to sit alongside an organ and give a solo player immediate accompaniment.

The machine in the record

Peter Semiletov / a GEM Drum15 virtual kit.

Peter Semiletov carried the GEM Drum15 into Drumlabooh as one of the rare machines sampled for its virtual kits. It is a playable contemporary archive, not a song or live-hardware claim, and gives the little Italian preset box another life.

A row of rhythms under the hand

Fifteen black selector buttons stretch beneath the Drum 15’s tempo and volume sliders. The retained photograph makes the priorities plain: choose a rhythm, set its pace and balance it against the instrument beside it. A surviving-unit seller describes pressing several buttons together to combine the preset patterns. This is accompaniment shaped at the panel, rather than a beat entered step by step.

The entrance is under the foot

The same seller reports that its example starts and stops through a footswitch; with none connected, the rhythm continues to play. Output, footswitch and organ connections place it beside a keyboard, while the handle is described as an organ-mounting aid. It is a useful account of that survivor’s operation, with original documentation still needed to establish every configuration.

The organ connection, then the sample list

A separate surviving-unit account describes a lamp-and-light-dependent-resistor organ connection and repairs to its specimen. That unusual interface belongs to the machine’s working history, but remains a seller observation pending schematic inspection. A later sample-set list includes GEM DRUM15. It shows the name continuing in a library, without establishing a recording session, introduction date or the condition of the sampled hardware.
