Conn’s Min-O-Matic Rhythm Model 001 is a compact freestanding rhythm box made to put automatic accompaniment beside an organist, guitarist or home musician: six named dances, a metronome and a handful of controls that make the beat part of the player’s own setup.
The machine in the record
Karlos the Jackal / “Teen Beat”.
Karlos the Jackal identifies the beat in a recent song as “Teen Beat” from the Conn Min-O-Matic. The song itself is not named or linked, so the page keeps the association at that small but evocative scale: a preset rhythm moving into an independent songwriter’s recording.

The Min-O-Matic Model 001 brings Conn’s organ-world practicality into a small separate box. Waltz, Ballad, Foxtrot, March, Teenbeat and Latin sit beside a metronome, turning the front panel into a pocket repertoire for a player working without a drummer.
A beat with room to move
Double Beat, variable tempo and volume make the fixed patterns less fixed in practice. The player can choose the basic dance, alter the pace and let the machine support a song rather than simply mark time beside it.
Ready for the existing room
A tone control, quarter-inch output and high/low selector show where the Model 001 expected to live: next to the amplifier and instruments already in use. It is accompaniment designed as a practical extension of a modest home or small-stage rig.
The complete little proposition
Five analogue percussion voices and preset patterns place the Conn in the pre-programmable rhythm-box tradition. Its charm lies in the economy of that proposition—choose a feel, connect the output, and give the room a rhythm section.
